Julia Licht is a multi-faceted artist based in Savannah, Georgia. Her extensive body of work encompasses printmaking, custom pet and human portraiture, block printing, painting, sculpture, and hand-fired mosaics.
Background & Education Licht grew up on Long Island, New York, and holds a Fine Arts degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. Following her formal training, she spent nearly a decade as a street artist and freelance illustrator in Soho, New York City, where she built her early portfolio selling illustrations of urban life to international visitors and taking freelance assignments for publications like The New Yorker.
Artistic Focus & Style After relocating to Savannah as a single mother to raise her three children, Licht re-established her full-time studio practice. Her work frequently explores the distinct character, everyday landmarks, and southern urban landscapes of the Savannah area. Alongside her studio work, she contributes regular illustrations to Savannah Agenda.
Her practice spans commissioned human and pet portraits held in private collections worldwide, hand-carved block prints on rice paper, and custom block-printed apparel featuring local motifs.
Exhibitions & Community Presence Licht actively engages with the local arts community through juried art fairs and outdoor markets, including selling her work directly at Forsyth Park. Her local exhibition history includes showing at Cedar House Gallery and participating in group shows at Location Gallery. Her work has also been featured in publications such as NYC Metropolitan Magazine, Independent News UK, Savannah Now, Connect Savannah, and Voyage Savannah.
